Sectional weights are the IS 808 values used in the Indian trade. Individual producers' sections and later IS 808 editions can differ slightly — confirm against the producer's table where billing depends on it.

Tapered flange or parallel flange
ISMB sections have tapered flanges; parallel flange beams (often written NPB / WPB or by the producer's designation) have flanges of uniform thickness. The two are designed differently and are not direct substitutes. If your drawing shows a parallel flange section, send the exact designation.
Grades & standards
Standard numbers define the product and grade; they do not by themselves certify a supply. State the edition and certificate requirement on your purchase order.

MS Beams — common questions
What does ISI & TC mean?
ISI means the section carries the BIS certification mark — produced under licence to the Indian Standard. TC is the producer's test certificate for the lot. "ISI & TC" on an indent asks for both.
What is the difference between an I beam and an H beam?
In common usage, "I beam" refers to sections deeper than they are wide (such as ISMB), while "H beam" refers to wide-flange or heavy sections used as columns (such as ISHB or wide parallel flange columns).
Can you supply ISMB from SAIL or Jindal?
Primary-producer beams can be sourced subject to the section being in the producer's rolling range. State the producer and quantity.
