Weights are calculated from nominal dimensions at 7.85 g/cm³ and ignore corner and root radii. Producer tables and actual weights differ slightly because of radii and rolling tolerances.

SHS — common questions
What is a patra pipe?
A pipe or hollow section rolled from secondary or scrap-derived strip, usually without ISI certification. It is cheaper but less consistent in wall thickness and strength, and suits only non-critical work. For pressure, fire-fighting, scaffolding or structural use, specify ISI-marked pipe.
Is SHS the same as a square pipe?
Yes. "Square pipe" and "square tube" are common trade terms for square hollow sections (SHS).
Which grade should I use for structural frames?
YSt 310 to IS 4923 is the common structural reference. Follow the grade on your drawing.
