Weights are calculated from nominal dimensions at 7.85 g/cm³ and ignore corner and root radii. Producer tables and actual weights differ slightly because of radii and rolling tolerances.

Square bar or square hollow section?
A square bar is solid; a square hollow section is a tube. For the same outside size, a bar is several times heavier and stiffer against local denting but costs far more per metre. Bars are used where the member is small, forged, twisted or machined; SHS where stiffness per kilogram matters.
