Weights are calculated from nominal dimensions at 7.85 g/cm³ and ignore corner and root radii. Producer tables and actual weights differ slightly because of radii and rolling tolerances.

Flat bar or plate strip?
Hot rolled flats have rolled edges. For wider sections or where the width is not a standard flat size, flats can be replaced by strips cut from HR plate — which has sheared or flame-cut edges. State which you need if edge condition matters.
Soft flats
Flats that will be bent, scrolled or twisted — for gates, grills and railings — are bought as soft flats: low-carbon material that bends cold without cracking. It is usually written "soft" or "soft guaranteed" on the order. Where flats will only be cut and welded, standard IS 2062 flats are sufficient.

Standard numbers define the product and grade; they do not by themselves certify a supply. State the edition and certificate requirement on your purchase order.
