IS 1079 is the reference when hot rolled material is bought for forming, bending, pressing or drawing rather than for structural strength. Its grades are graded by formability (the HR1 to HR5 series, with HR1 the most general and higher numbers progressively more formable), plus high-strength variants.
IS 1079 or IS 2062?
- Specify IS 2062 when the drawing or structural design calls for a yield-strength grade.
- Specify IS 1079 when the component is formed, pressed or bent and surface/forming behaviour matters more than structural yield strength.
